AYSO 880 -- Romeo, Bruce, Washington Twp

Beyond Primary

AYSO Romeo Coaching Staff believes in the "USE IT OR LOSE IT" mentality.  If players are not constantly using soccer skills acquired during the soccer season, they will lose them and have to relearn at the start of the season again.

Consider how much time is spent relearning skills preventing players from developing even further.  As a way to combat skill deterioration during the summer (too hot, noone to play with, my favorite show is on) and winter (too cold, can't play in the snow, my favorite holiday special is on) players can participate in many soccer related activities.  Some of these activities include:

  • Section 8 Tournament
  • FallFest Tournament
  • Winter Indoor Soccer
  • Summer Soccer Camps

Another way to accelerate development is for players to play against a higher level of competition.  Better skills of competitors reinforces ball control requirements, teamwork and creative play on the field.  Higher level of competition can be found by participating in:

  • Section 8 Tournament
  • FallFest Tournament
  • AYSO Extra/Select team (tryouts in June or email [email protected])

If any of these programs interest you, please read through the information presented here then talk to your coach or contact a member of AYSO Romeo's Board.

AYSO Extra

AYSO EXTRA, a PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM, is designed for players who have the interest, skills and abilities and want to enhance their experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO.

EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program – rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way – all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosophies of AYSO.

Summer Soccer Camp

AYSO Romeo 880 believes that player development season-to-season is accelerated when players continue to touch (practice, play) the soccer ball in the off-season.

One way to do this is to enroll in a summer soccer camp.  https://youtu.be/CugcoAkxlUY

P2 Professionals Soccer Camp will be held soon after the Spring season ends. Keep the excitement going by honing skills just learned and developing new techniques to practice for the rest of the summer. Taught by fully licensed soccer coaches, sessions will include age-appropriate practices for 3-14 year olds. A 1-1/2 hour coach clinic will be offered for any parents interested in coaching.

The AYSO Soccer Camp is scheduled right before the start of the fall season and is intended to prime player development by removing the rust and attempt to overcome bad habits that crept in during the summer. To maintain quality instruction, registration and a nominal fee will be set up in late June through July.

Coach Clinics will be conducted by AYSO Camps instructors: a 90-minute clinic for U5-U8 coaches/assistant coaches and a 90-minute U10-U12 clinic. If interested in attending to gain more ideas on how to help your child/team develop better skills, send email to  [email protected] or find more information on specific dates on the Calendar.

Attending camps helps improve the effectiveness of our certified coaches by enforcing player fundamentals before pre-season practices even begin.

Tournaments

Tournaments are an excellent way for players to gage personal and team abilities against teams from other regions.  Tournaments also attract a higher caliber of team play, elevating the level of play for players and accelerating development.

Participating in a tournament will benefit players no matter the result.  New teams playing in a tournament may learn that their players are not as developed as they thought, but this simply fuels players' desires to improve in the off-season and into the next season, especially if they know another tournament is coming.

The AYSO tournaments identified here provide various levels of difficulty depending on the tournament entered.

FallFest Tournaments

Tournament shall be an AYSO Area Tournament Open to Area C Regular season house teams.
Teams have had to play in the current fall season.
Exception: U16 and U19 Girls. Co-ed teams will compete in the boys division.

Tournament is approximately the 2nd weekend in October.

Tell your coach if you are interested in playing in this tournament.

National Games

The AYSO 50th Anniversary National Games are being held Torrance California.  In order to participate in the games, AYSO Romeo must win a bid in a lottery to participate.  The regional board has submitted bids into the lottery in the hopes of securing a chance to represent AYSO Romeo 880 in the national games.

Winter Indoor

Winter Indoor Soccer typically offers three distinct seasons depending on the hosting facility.

  • November-December
  • January-February
  • March-April

Each season offers approximately 8 weeks of play but does not offer time on the field for practice during the week.

The indoor leagues typically played by our players do not use sidewall bounce as part of the play.  The reason is that this forces better ball control and slows the game down just a little.  We are stressing ball control, short quick passes, and quick shots on net.

Teams have playes at Premier Training Center and Ultimate in the past and will continue to play at these facilities.

If you are interested in Winter Indoor Soccer, please let your coach know so that he can put you in touch with the proper individuals.
